Abercrombie & Fitch Quaterlies. Work by Bruce Webber
This morning I woke up thinking on these catalogues or magazines released by Abercrombie & Fitch during the years. Yes, I have collected a few since the the images were so striking for a young audience. Nudity is featured in most of the spreads and the models are absolutely gorgeous. For Bruce Webber the photographer that contributed to the enormous success of Abercrombie & Fitch was just a right fit. Every picture that has been published in the Quarterlies represents him in a way. He likes to portray young people in their full blown sexuality and make them portray what every young adult wants his world to be when you live in that age.
The Quarterly consists in a full editorial work of different models surrounding a theme that can go from Going back to school, the summer, the love, the nature and so on. These themes are pretty much well attached to what the art of young preppy boys live by. The images often represent more feelings, situations and bodies than the clothes. As I can say the clothes are the last thing you could find in these publications.
The catalogues were offered also by subscription but it was the early 2000's that mail colleges started banning the suscriptions since saying they were offering soft porn and that the images were too suggestive and shouldn't be around campuses all over the US. This of course triggered the sales of the catalogues and make the company earn even more money.
Nowadays the company seems to have created "Abercrombie Studios" who creates the images for the advertising campaigns and also the videos. Also runs the casting calls for the store employees who want to be portrayed in the catalogues. Seems to be that Bruce Webber is attached to it and I wouldn't doubt it since its a continuous source of material for his art work.
The A&F Quarterly is still being published these years. I bought the one that appears in the first image last year. I don't know if the frequency of it still is the same but the retail price in the stores is $14.00 dls and no, it's not at item that you can find on sale, exactly like their leather flip flops.
You can find Bruce Webber art work in his own website.
